11 bit studios reminds us with a trailer that Last Variable, the new expansion of the award-winning sci-fi survival title The Alters, is now available. This substantial update offers about twenty hours of additional content, introducing a new storyline, revamped game mechanics and new types of Alters to recruit.

The protagonist's mission does not end with the conclusion of the main campaign, but evolves around the figure of the "Jan scientist". The goal of this new storyline is to study the Oasis, a lush paradise that is emerging from a desolate environment. To carry out research of this magnitude, we will again have to create a team by assembling several alternative versions of ourselves, including a geologist, a biologist, a chemist and a physicist. Their perfectly aligned minds will be essential to unravel the secrets of this mysterious phenomenon.

On the operational front, the expansion will allow us to explore completely new regions and modify them through terraforming. Each alteration of the landscape will generate new resources, but it will also awaken the planet's defense mechanisms, unleashing threats such as increasingly intense earthquakes and dangerous waves of radiation. We will also have to expand our underground structures and adapt to environmental cycles, building on different types of terrain and developing new components.

Among the new technologies at our disposal is the Cryogenic Chamber, an essential module to buy time and observe the long-term effects of our scientific discoveries. Technological progress will also include the installation of field laboratories, which will assign new tasks to our variants, allowing them to carry out research even while we are in hibernation during the cooling phases of the planet.
