Spyro: A Realm Beyond announced at XBOX Games Showcase: the purple dragon returns in 2027
The team worked closely with some of the original developers to capture the essence of Spyro, evolving its design for the modern era. The visual changes are subtle but significant: the wingspan has been expanded to support a new full flight mechanic, a central element of the experience. It will no longer be a matter of simple glides or timed flight sequences, but of authentic freedom in the skies, with Spyro able to move with agility and physical impact as he explores worlds full of charm and discovery.
Paul Yan, Studio Head of Toys for Bob, emphasized how the team is made up of big fans of the character and how the project represents the realization of a dream cultivated since the days of Spyro Reignited Trilogy. Spyro's redesign maintains the link with the classic iterations, but prepares it to face new challenges that will require new skills. To lend his voice to the protagonist again will be Tom Kenny, whose return guarantees that blend of youthful courage and lively spirit that has always defined the character.
The universe of Spyro: A Realm Beyond will retain the variety of colorful and bizarre spaces that have made the series iconic, with exploration, memorable characters, and hidden treasures to incentivize every corner of the map. On a narrative level, the tone appears slightly more mature: the introduction of a new antagonist will raise the stakes, pushing Spyro to confront unprecedented emotional depths and grow as a hero, without losing that dreamlike joy that characterizes the franchise.
For longtime fans, Yan teased that this announcement is just the beginning, with much more to be revealed in the coming months. After almost twenty years, the purple dragon is ready to take off the most ambitious flight of his career, and we can't wait to see how he will be able to win over new generations of players. We leave you to the trailer shown during the Show and to a set of images, enjoy!
