Asha Sharma: Tough decisions will be needed in the future of XBOX
In a memorandum obtained by The Verge and Windows Central, the executive explained that "difficult decisions" could soon come to ensure the success of the platform. These are his words:
We're building a stronger XBOX. This means making difficult decisions about what to build, where to invest, and what kind of company we need to be in the future; that's partly what you're starting to see in the move from Xbox to XBOX. This reflects our choice to act consciously in the way we present ourselves to the players who care most about this brand.
What could these decisions concern? The thought immediately goes to the possible closure of the less profitable studios (where to invest) that have less been able to drive the XBOX brand so far, or even to the cancellation of titles (what to make) in development for some time. We know, for example, that much of the brand's current margins come from the multiplatform strategy, and therefore a decision disliked by fans could be to continue on this path, instead of returning to exclusives. We doubt that this will be about a weakening of Game Pass, as Asha has shown that she cares a lot about the success of the service.
We wait to find out what these words refer to, perhaps at the Xbox Games Showcase on June 7th. Stay tuned!
