New head of XBOX strategy focuses on relaunching historic franchises

Great maneuvers at the top at XBOX, to redesign the brand's future strategies. The division has in fact welcomed two new important executives, Scott Van Vliet in the role of Chief Technology Officer and Matthew Ball as Chief Strategy Officer, with the latter immediately wanting to outline the key points of his mandate to bring the brand back to its former glory.

In a recent interview granted to Bloomberg, Ball openly admitted that the company is coming off a series of complicated and overall disappointing quarters in terms of results. The main goal of the new management is therefore to immediately reverse the course, focusing on attracting an ever-increasing pool of users and increasing the total hours spent on our screens. To achieve this goal, plans will focus in particular on relaunching historic sagas of the past and strengthening the hardware market.

Although the current console sector is facing significant challenges, mainly related to the increase in component costs and memory prices, the new executive said he is convinced that this business remains fundamental, solid and still growing. Following the line traced by the new CEO, the division is sure that revenues and profits will come accordingly, as long as they maintain the right commercial course.

Plans for the future also include a strong focus on the evolution of the gaming experience itself. The declared intention is to offer us increasingly wide and stimulating ways to explore, create and build together within the titles of the Xbox stable. However, it still remains to be seen if and how Microsoft intends to move to introduce a greater amount of content generated directly by users, an aspect on which precise details have not been released at the moment.

Obviously, the desire to revive the historical franchises does not necessarily mean that they will be successful: just look at how it went with Perfect Dark, which was born from the same desire but ended with a cancellation of the project; Hopefully other franchises can have a better fate. Will we see new titles dedicated to XBOX franchises such as Banjo-Kazooie, Prototype, Killer Instinct, Quake, Guitar Hero, Crimson Skies, Spyro the Dragon, Conker, Lost Odyssey and many others? We hope so!
