Koshmar: The Last Reverie, a gothic nightmare announced by Polish Purple Ray Studio

Polish studio Purple Ray Studio, made up of veterans of titles such as Resident Evil Village, The Witcher 2 and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, today revealed Koshmar: The Last Reverie, a third-person action-adventure that mixes roguelite and RPG elements in a gothic setting where dreams and nightmares intertwine. The game will lead us to explore the mind of the young protagonist Violet, showing it to us in a trailer that anticipates a very particular visual and gameplay experience.

Violet is a teenager who lives in a seemingly normal small town, but possesses an extraordinary ability: lucid dreaming. When nightmares begin to shatter against his dreams and reality itself, we will have to delve into the depths of darkness risking our sanity to protect those afflicted by a mysterious sleeping sickness. Duality will be at the heart of the experience: our choices between fighting styles inspired by dreams or nightmares will unlock resources that will amplify dreamlike delusions or invite an increasingly crazy mindset when we return to the real world.

The depth of the game system is reflected in the impact our actions will have on Violet's appearance and how the world will present itself to our eyes. Depending on how deeply we immerse ourselves in the states of "Delirium" or "Madness", the visual and narrative experience will change accordingly. Adrenaline-pumping combat will offer different variations through skills, upgrades and skills, while exploration and puzzle-solving will guide us through settings ranging from surreal to gloomy in a completely original world.

Roguelite mechanics manifest themselves in the Nightmare Rifts, replayable areas that will test our mental state by sharpening or blurring our perception. We will also have to face the consequences of our choices, which will give rise to multiple endings shaping the world around us according to our approach. The gothic and steampunk aesthetic, painted with lush hand-brushstrokes, will create a visual feast that will invite constant exploration.

Koshmar: The Last Reverie is currently in development for PC and consoles, with Purple Ray Studio working on the title for over two years. We leave you with the announcement trailer and a set of images, enjoy!
