State of Decay 3 gives signs of life: Alpha Playtests start in May

After a long period of silence, Undead Labs finally returns to talk about State of Decay 3: the studio has just announced the opening of registrations to participate in a series of Alpha Playtests scheduled for May.

The last update on the title dated back to January 2026, when the top management of Xbox Game Studios had reassured fans by confirming the excellent progress related to development. Now, through the new video that we show you below, the co-creator of the franchise Brant Fitzgerald has returned to share important news. Fitzgerald explained how, while part of the studio has continued to assiduously support the second chapter in recent years, the rest of the team has dedicated itself full-time to the creation of State of Decay 3.

To better shape this new undead-based survival, the developers analyzed community feedback collected between Discord channels, live streams and game clips, trying to fully understand what fans had liked or not in the past iteration. Now the time is ripe for us to take the field to test the fruits of their labor.

Although Fitzgerald did not want to reveal too many details so as not to spoil the surprise, he anticipated that in this Alpha version we will be able to try a 4-player cooperative mode, experiment with new mechanics related to the construction of our base and strategies for resource management, as well as obviously launching into a huge amount of fights. Those interested in putting themselves to the test can already register to participate in the Alpha by filling out the form on the team's official website.

We leave you to the announcement movie of the Playtests: enjoy!
