Sonic Frontiers shows us the combat system and character upgrades

Less than a month after the release of the game, SEGA continues to show us new features of the long-awaited "open zone" action-adventure Sonic Frontiers; in the video released today by the Japanese publisher we are shown the combat system and above all the possibilities of upgrading Sonic, which for the first time in the history of the franchise will enjoy a real skill tree.

Sonic will start the game with his favorite moves, such as Homing Attack, Drop Dash and Stomp, very effective against normal enemies. However, as you continue exploring the Starfall Islands, you will be able to unlock several other skills to face the biggest and strongest opponents that await you during the journey.

For the first time in the Sonic franchise, Sonic Frontiers will introduce a skill tree, packed with exciting new and powerful skills to learn and use against its new enemies. To unlock the additional abilities, we will have to collect a sufficient number of "Skill Fragments" from the fallen enemies, the breakable objects around the island and the Big the Cat fishing minigame . Once we have learned the skills that interest us most, we can use our new moves to fight in a unique way and master our approach to battle.

There is a wide variety of skills that can be linked together to create combos and get the better of them in battle. Here's a brief overview of some of these new skills:

  • Cyloop - Running leaving a trail of light. Closing the circle has amazing effects in both combat and exploration – try it anywhere!
  • Phantom Rush - When the combo meter is at its maximum, Phantom Rush activates and your attacks will be more powerful until the combo meter reaches zero.
  • Sonic Boom - Rapid kicks unleash shock waves that hit the enemy.
  • Wild Rush - A high-speed, zigzag attack.

While you can develop a unique combat strategy on normal enemies, the Guardians will require a little more work to take down. Many of these giant bosses will require us to engage with their unique battle mechanics before reaching their weak point. Then we can use one of the many attacks in our arsenal to defeat them. The choice of how to deal with the fight is completely up to us.

The more you venture into the Starfall Islands, the more powerful the enemies to face become, so we will have to make sure to collect all the Red Seeds of Power and the Blue Seeds of Defense from puzzles and challenges throughout the map to increase your stats.

We leave you to the movie: good vision!
