Not just xCloud: Microsoft turns our Xbox into a personal streaming server

Over the past few months there has been a lot of talk about Project xCloud,a game streaming technology that will allow us to play with our Xbox titles on devices like smartphones and tablets directly in the cloud, but during the Microsoft conference at E3 Phil Spencer revealed another interesting feature coming soon, the Streaming Console.

This technology will turn our console into a personal streaming server, allowing us to play while we are away from home - via smartphone, PC browser or other - to all the titles installed on the console; Unlike Project xCloud, here the processing of the games will take place directly on our console at home, which of course will have to be in instant startup mode in order to "wake up" when we want to play something. In order to take advantage of this feature we will have to have a good upload band at home, but the advantage will be that the service, taking advantage of our console, will be completely free and will not need to pay a subscription in order to play.

Microsoft has announced that the first tests of the Streaming Console will take place in October. We don't know enough details yet about how it will all work, so please stay tuned for all updates.
